Local elections took place in England on 4th May while elections will take place in Northern Ireland on 18th May.
Animal Welfare Party stood two candidates in local elections in England; Gavin Ridley in Alderney and Bourne Valley ward, Dorset and Jane Smith in Smallwood parish, Cheshire.
In Alderney and Bourne Valley, Dorset, Gavin Ridley received 239 votes (2.9%).
In Smallwood, Cheshire, Jane Smith received 69 votes (6.9%) and was just 4 votes away from being elected. The share of the vote received here is also the second highest the party has ever received.
This was the party’s first time standing in both areas and, we believe, shows great promise for future elections.
Our heartfelt thanks to all those voting for and supporting Gavin Ridley and Jane Smith in so many ways in these elections.
Applications from those interested in standing as a candidate for the party in the upcoming 2024/5 General Election are now open. More information can be found on our Current Elections page.
